The U.S.S. Alabama, a Trident Ballistic submarine, is on an emergency patrol due to a partial military coup in the former Soviet Union. This is the skipper's last patrol, and a shake-down cruise for the new executive officer. As the political situation deteriorates, the skipper realizes that he is being tracked by a hostile rebel attack submarine.
